Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery

Cataracts cannot be treated with medication or traditional lasers; surgery is the only option. Laser-assisted cataract surgery is one of the most advanced and reliable procedures, significantly enhancing precision and outcomes. During the procedure, the cloudy lens is replaced with a clear intraocular lens (IOL).

Surgical Procedure:

  1. Incision and Removal: Using a laser for precise incisions, the surgeon makes an opening to remove the cloudy lens. Depending on the lens's condition, it is either removed whole or broken apart with ultrasound waves before removal.

  2. Insertion of New Lens: A new lens (IOL) is inserted through the incision and positioned in the natural capsule that held your old lens.

  3. Closing the Incision: Most incisions are self-sealing, meaning they close on their own without stitches.

Advanced Lens Options:

  • Vivity Multifocal Lens: Allows patients to see both near and far, providing an exciting new level of vision.

  • LenSx Femtosecond Laser: Corrects astigmatism with laser incisions and allows precise lens placement and faster healing incisions.

  • Toric Lens: Corrects most levels of astigmatism, but does not correct near vision.

Recovery:

Most patients experience a quick recovery, with improved vision within a few days. Post-surgery, patients are advised to use prescribed eye medications, avoid strenuous activities, and refrain from rubbing their eyes for several weeks.
